Why a velodrome
Indoor velodromes give still air and repeatable laps, so a small change shows up as a change in the result instead of a change in the weather. An open-air track compares runs only within similar conditions on the day.
How results are reported
Every result is shown with its range. A change is called only when it sits outside measurement noise, and a repeat run confirms it.
